What now?

Dear Katie,

Your dad and I want you to know that we really hate second grade. This year has been filled with so many challanges. You are progressing so well in so many areas, but it has also been a year of difficulties. Just one month ago, you received your first principal office visit. I will admit that I felt like laughing at part of the reason for your visit. YOU ATE PENCIL LEAD!!! The girl in front of you dared you to eat it, and well, you did. You also would not stay in your seat, you were up and down, and you would not listen. Now those things were not so funny - but pencil lead. Oh my! We had to wait an entire hour for the principal to come to her office. It was the pits!

Well, today, your teacher came out to the car and told me that you cheated on a math speed drill. You were sent to the office where you received yet another spanking. I have to say, I was very much dismayed. When I asked you why you looked at the other childs paper, you said that it was so that you could receive money for the school store. The more answers you had correct the more money you would receive and the more "presents" you could buy. Just let me get this out first - cheating is bad. OK. Now that I have that out. I really think that you were a step a head of your teacher in this. She was trying to keep kids motivated to continue and to work hard. Afterall, it is getting near the end of the school year, spring is coming, and well, we are all a little sick of school. I don't think that she saw this as a possibility. So you have received your punishment from us - you had to stay in your room, write you math facts, and had to admit that you were wrong, along with a good ol' fussing.

Deep down -- I'm just as sick of the second grade as you are! I just pray that you have learned your lesson and there will be no more cheating or lead eating for the rest of your life.

Now, lets get down to having fun. . . .

Love,

Mom and Dad

Funny words

Sometimes my kids can say the funnest words. This morning it was so foggy outside that it was difficult to see. Katie says, "I can't believe how froggy it is this morning." Cole agreed that it was very froggy. Katie sometimes says allergy for alert when playing battle with her brother. Cole says that he takes durteck (Zurteck) for allergies. They were singing, "The weather outside is nightfull, the sun is so delightful, since we have no place to go, Let it snow." Well, at least they say I love you just right.

Swim Lessons

We had swim lessons for the first time on Thursday. Both kids really need to learn how to swim. They are taking lessons from a very sweet girl named Hannah. She is a swim coach and teacher. Needless to say, she has experience. Cole was in tears as soon as heard about the lessons. Katie was pumped up and ready to go. When we arrived at the pool, Katie began to cry. Cole was trying to be very brave. She taught them the proper way to enter the pool and talked to them about the difference between the deep end and the shallow end. The lesson started with the dead man's float. Katie was up first. Katie floated and then Hannah told her the proper way to keep her head up so that her ears were under the water. Katie did not like that one bit. Hannah then told her that she would count to ten and then help her up. As soon as Katie's head was floating, Katie began to count. Hannah then informed Katie that she was the teacher and she had the right to be the one to count. Th...

Fire Crakcer, Fire Cracker, Boom, Boom, Boom

Today is News Years Eve. The kids and I spent the day at home making a cake. David went to a football game. We gathered at Marty and Jennifer's house along with the Brake family (who are moving tomorrow to Boston) and all ate soup and cake. As darkness fell, we took to the street to shoot off LOTS of fireworks - most illegal. The kids had a ball running around with sparklers while all the women watched for the cops! The husbands would light and run. Yes - it was a grand ol' time celebrating New Years Eve in the south! Too bad the Brake family are moving up north - I bet they will never see such a show up there. Well, heres to a new year.
