I have never really understood how to prepare children for the death of a family member or a close friend. Mr. Roger has been a part of my kids lives. He has a brain tumor and is not doing well. I have tried to prepare Cole and Katie for what is going to happen. They know that he is sick and that he has something that they cannot catch. Katie was concerned that she may get sick if she sits beside him. I told them that he has cancer and the medicine that he takes is not working. Cole prays for him every night in only a way a child can pray - from the heart and sincere. I pray that I know the words to say that will help Cole and Katie understand what is happening. I pray that I can be honest and clear. I pray for a miracle.
Sometimes my kids can say the funnest words. This morning it was so foggy outside that it was difficult to see. Katie says, "I can't believe how froggy it is this morning." Cole agreed that it was very froggy. Katie sometimes says allergy for alert when playing battle with her brother. Cole says that he takes durteck (Zurteck) for allergies. They were singing, "The weather outside is nightfull, the sun is so delightful, since we have no place to go, Let it snow." Well, at least they say I love you just right.
