Lunch with Cole

Cole asked me yesterday if Katie and I could have lunch with him on Wednesday. They were going to be having Chilli Beans with corn bread. It is always so interesting to see him in his other environment. The kids all piled into the cafeteria and were handed their spoons and napkins. The milk was already poured into their glasses and waiting on the table. Cole was able to choose two friends to share lunch with us at a separate table. Cole comes over with two girls. One girl is Michelle Catherine and the other was Abby. This is the same Abby that has been sending home colored pictures to Cole via his book bag. The girls are smiling and seem very confident for kindergarten. I asked them many questions about their day and about school. Cole just ate his lunch while the girls and I chatted. Then Michelle Catherine lays it on me: Cole and Abby are engaged! Oh boy! I do believe that we skipped several steps. Who are her parents? What about college? I'm not ready for this! Cole turns really red and puts his hands over his ears. He looks up and asks me if they are finished talking. The girls giggle and I wish that I could put my hands over my ears too. Walking out, I asked Mrs. Kendall if she knew that Cole and Abby were engaged? She smiles and says that Cole is such a sweet young man and that Abby is a nice girl. It seems that the girls are drawn to Cole in the same manner as they were drawn to his father. The girls like to chase Cole while he is playing with his friends. The other boys are mean to the girls but Cole smiles and runs. Just like his dad - always into the chase!

Funny words

Sometimes my kids can say the funnest words. This morning it was so foggy outside that it was difficult to see. Katie says, "I can't believe how froggy it is this morning." Cole agreed that it was very froggy. Katie sometimes says allergy for alert when playing battle with her brother. Cole says that he takes durteck (Zurteck) for allergies. They were singing, "The weather outside is nightfull, the sun is so delightful, since we have no place to go, Let it snow." Well, at least they say I love you just right.

Swim Lessons

We had swim lessons for the first time on Thursday. Both kids really need to learn how to swim. They are taking lessons from a very sweet girl named Hannah. She is a swim coach and teacher. Needless to say, she has experience. Cole was in tears as soon as heard about the lessons. Katie was pumped up and ready to go. When we arrived at the pool, Katie began to cry. Cole was trying to be very brave. She taught them the proper way to enter the pool and talked to them about the difference between the deep end and the shallow end. The lesson started with the dead man's float. Katie was up first. Katie floated and then Hannah told her the proper way to keep her head up so that her ears were under the water. Katie did not like that one bit. Hannah then told her that she would count to ten and then help her up. As soon as Katie's head was floating, Katie began to count. Hannah then informed Katie that she was the teacher and she had the right to be the one to count. Th...

Fire Crakcer, Fire Cracker, Boom, Boom, Boom

Today is News Years Eve. The kids and I spent the day at home making a cake. David went to a football game. We gathered at Marty and Jennifer's house along with the Brake family (who are moving tomorrow to Boston) and all ate soup and cake. As darkness fell, we took to the street to shoot off LOTS of fireworks - most illegal. The kids had a ball running around with sparklers while all the women watched for the cops! The husbands would light and run. Yes - it was a grand ol' time celebrating New Years Eve in the south! Too bad the Brake family are moving up north - I bet they will never see such a show up there. Well, heres to a new year.
