Rufus

Found dog: blue collar, 35 lbs, tattoo on back leg (05CN17109), brown and black terrier mix. You would think that someone would be looking for their dog. This is after all an inside dog. The dog arrived six days ago. Yes, he is cute - but he sheds - a lot! Saturday, David and I decided to let the dog in to sleep. We set up a make shift bed in our pantry. The dog did really well and on Sunday we let him run around inside. On Monday, I started making calls to find out where this dog belonged. After about ten phone calls I had an owner. This dog is from the Charlotte Humane Society. His owners are Jeff and Trisha Moore of Matthews, NC. Funny how they have moved and did not leave their forwarding number. On Tuesday, I took Rufus to the vet for shots and a much needed bath. On Wednesday, Rufus found himself outside. After I really cleaned the floors and furniture I realized just how much Rufus sheds. I began to make more calls and continue my search work on just where the Moore's have relocated. I am now desperate. I am contacting Duke Power for a forwarding address for Jeff Moore. Duke Power refuses to give up the information but they have agreed to contact Jeff Moore. Jeff Moore told Duke Power that they owned a dog just like I have described but he became too much of a pest so they returned him to the Humane Society. Funny how the Humane Society does not have a record of that. I believe that Jeff and Trisha Moore, on the way to their new house, just kind of tossed Rufus out of a moving car. As if this is not bad enough, David runs into our neighbor that lives about 5 houses up, Mark Almond, and he tells our neighbor, Mark Almond, that we have a dog at our house. Our neighbor, Mark Almond, begins to describe the dog we have "found" in great detail. This neighbor, Mark Almond, then tells David how the dog stayed with him, Mark Almond, for about one week before he, Mark Almond, loaded up the dog and dropped him off at the top of our hill. I would never name this person, Mark Almond, because I would imagine that he Mark Almond would like to have done the right thing and find the owners of the dog. No I am not bitter about all the time, engery and money that I have spent this week working with a dog that is not mine. I just know that I have done the right thing for this animal (even though he is freezing outside tonight as my husband pointed out) unlike other people Jeff and Trisha Moore and Mark Almond. The Albemarle Animal Rescue League will be getting the dog next week if no one comes to claim him after the add runs in the Stanly News and Press. They will place him with a home away from people like. . . well you get the idea.

Funny words

Sometimes my kids can say the funnest words. This morning it was so foggy outside that it was difficult to see. Katie says, "I can't believe how froggy it is this morning." Cole agreed that it was very froggy. Katie sometimes says allergy for alert when playing battle with her brother. Cole says that he takes durteck (Zurteck) for allergies. They were singing, "The weather outside is nightfull, the sun is so delightful, since we have no place to go, Let it snow." Well, at least they say I love you just right.

Swim Lessons

We had swim lessons for the first time on Thursday. Both kids really need to learn how to swim. They are taking lessons from a very sweet girl named Hannah. She is a swim coach and teacher. Needless to say, she has experience. Cole was in tears as soon as heard about the lessons. Katie was pumped up and ready to go. When we arrived at the pool, Katie began to cry. Cole was trying to be very brave. She taught them the proper way to enter the pool and talked to them about the difference between the deep end and the shallow end. The lesson started with the dead man's float. Katie was up first. Katie floated and then Hannah told her the proper way to keep her head up so that her ears were under the water. Katie did not like that one bit. Hannah then told her that she would count to ten and then help her up. As soon as Katie's head was floating, Katie began to count. Hannah then informed Katie that she was the teacher and she had the right to be the one to count. Th...

Fire Crakcer, Fire Cracker, Boom, Boom, Boom

Today is News Years Eve. The kids and I spent the day at home making a cake. David went to a football game. We gathered at Marty and Jennifer's house along with the Brake family (who are moving tomorrow to Boston) and all ate soup and cake. As darkness fell, we took to the street to shoot off LOTS of fireworks - most illegal. The kids had a ball running around with sparklers while all the women watched for the cops! The husbands would light and run. Yes - it was a grand ol' time celebrating New Years Eve in the south! Too bad the Brake family are moving up north - I bet they will never see such a show up there. Well, heres to a new year.
